Children in the Philippines – innocent victims of typhoon Haiyan

Every year the Philippines is battered by around 20 typhoons. And things are getting worse because of climate change. There are still a lot of people who have not fully recovered after the disaster which took place on 8 November 2013, when typhoon Haiyan struck. Many families still need support from the outside. Unfortunately, more and more natural disasters are coming.

Effects of typhoon Haiyan

Typhoon Yolanda – known internationally as Haiyan – left more than 6,300 people dead. Approximately 2,000 people are still listed as missing. The speed of the wind reached 196 miles per hour and the height of the waves reached nearly 8 m. Hundreds of thousands of Filipinos lost their homes and hundred of thousands of children lost their parents. None of them were prepared for another strike.

Unfortunately, nature is not kind for the inhabitants of the Philippines. Typhoons of different strength invade this country every year. So every year, they have to face tragedies that, for some people, are even hard to imagine. Lots of children become orphans. There is a great need for medicines and basic supplies like food, clothes, wellness and hygiene products.

AORF supports children in need

Since 2013 Aid for Orphans Relief Foundation has sent almost $2M in medical supplies to the Philippines. We helped to stock mobile clinics that took care of children and their families after the disaster. However, the typhoons keep coming. Help is needed on a daily basis. AORF is willing to help all the children in need. We still need to send them antibiotics, antifungals, antihelminthics, analgesics, vitamins, antivirals, and so much more. This gives them a chance for a normal life.

No one deserves such a fate. That is why we, as human beings, feel obliged to support those people in every possible way. We want to ease their pain and give them strength for the fight that is constantly ahead of them. Our aim is to take care of their health so they can concentrate on helping each other to rebuild what was destroyed by the typhoon.

We believe that our mission in the Philippines is of great importance. We hope that you agree. Remember that the Christmas season is hear. You have a roof over your head, food, and access to health care. Please, remember about those who do not have these luxuries. Without your support we cannot do much. You can save someone’s life. You can give someone a chance for a healthy future.
